On 23rd and 25th July 2024, as part of the PolyU Summer Institute, 30 eager students participated in a unique immersive learning session at PolyU’s CAVE & Digital Studio, organized by the Department of Applied Social Sciences. This event was designed to introduce students to cutting-edge immersive technologies and provide hands-on experience with innovative tools reshaping education and research.
The students were split into two groups of 15 for each session, ensuring a more interactive and personalized experience. Participants explored the CAVE, where they were immersed in various simulations and virtual environments, gaining insights into how these technologies are applied to real-world social science challenges.
In addition to the immersive experience, students had the rare opportunity to engage in video production in the Digital Studio. They participated in the planning, recording, and editing phases, learning the fundamentals of creating professional-grade digital content. The videos produced during the session were uploaded to a shared drive, allowing students to retrieve their work as a memorable souvenir of their experience.
This event, separate from any upcoming competitions, was an enriching educational experience focused on the application of technology in social sciences. The students left with enhanced skills, new perspectives, and a deeper appreciation for how technology can drive innovation in their fields of study. The event concluded with overwhelmingly positive feedback, with many participants expressing excitement about their newfound knowledge and skills.
