The Department of Applied Social Sciences (APSS) recently welcomed a group of Social Sciences students from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). This visit provided the students with a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the innovative technologies integrated into the APSS curriculum, offering them insights into PolyU’s forward-thinking approach to education.

Immersive Learning in the CAVE
During the visit, the HUST students were introduced to the CAVE. They were impressed by how this technology is integrated into the curriculum, offering both theoretical and practical insights into social sciences and social work.
Exploring the Digital Studio
The visit also included a tour of the Digital Studio (Z221), where the students learned about the studio’s role in enhancing communication and learning through digital media. They were introduced to various tools and technologies used to create multimedia content, which is increasingly becoming an integral part of social work education at APSS. From videotaping presentations to creating educational materials, the Digital Studio provides students with the skills necessary for effective communication in the digital age.
Curriculum Development and Technological Integration
Throughout the visit, the students from HUST gained valuable insights into how PolyU’s APSS integrates immersive technologies into its curriculum development. By blending traditional teaching methods with cutting-edge tools like the CAVE and Digital Studio, APSS ensures that students are well-equipped to deal with real-world challenges in social work and social sciences.
