Presentation to UGC Chairmen at HiVE: Immersive Technologies in Education

On May 3, 2023, Dr. Rodney Chu (CSD’s project leader) delivered a compelling presentation to a group of UGC delegates at the HiVE on the use of immersive technologies in campus learning environments. The presentation showcased how these cutting-edge technologies are being applied to enhance real subject content and improve the overall learning experience.

Immersive Technologies in Real Subject Content

During his presentation, Dr. Chu provided the UGC delegates with an insightful overview of how immersive technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality, have been successfully integrated into specific subject areas. He highlighted the practical applications of these technologies in enriching the academic experience by creating more engaging and interactive learning environments.

One of the key examples discussed was the CAR subject “From Gloom to Bloom: Global New Urbanism”, where immersive technology played a significant role in transforming the traditional learning approach. Through the use of VR and AR, students were able to engage with the course material in novel ways, encouraging deeper understanding and a more hands-on approach to complex topics.

A Promising Future for Educational Innovation

The presentation to the UGC delegates was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the innovative strides being made at APSS in the realm of immersive technology. The delegates expressed great interest in the current applications and future potential of these technologies across multiple disciplines.
